Lent 1, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Stopped Worrying about Capitalism and Learned to Love Christianity’s Radical Message!
Readings: Ephesians 6:12, Luke 4:1-13

This Lenten season’s theme, Economic Equity, is a tall order and requires us to begin with a sober assessment of capitalism as a Power and Principality.  When we approach it in this way, we begin to understand that capitalism is America’s civic religion that holds the nation under its spell, promising its citizens all the trappings of empire if only we’d worship it unquestioningly and uncritically.  As a Christian faith community, what should our response be?  This week’s gospel reading, the first temptations of Jesus, give us some possible answers.  Come join us for a thought-provoking exploration!
